Dicheimaro. The forests of Voio.
Darkness Guides Us takes place in the Dicheimaro area of Voio, in the Kozani regional unit of Western Macedonia, Northern Greece. This is a rural forest setting: a place to slow down, stay beneath the trees and spend three days together away from the city.
Dicheimaro—also written Dicheimarro, or Διχείμαρρο in Greek—is a small village at about 720 metres above sea level. Its name comes from the two streams running outside the village, and oak woodland shapes the surrounding landscape. The wider Voio region is known for wooded hills, traditional villages and stone-built settlements.
The festival is in the wider village area, rather than Kozani city. Our exact festival entrance pin, final approach and parking instructions will be added here before the event.
Find Dicheimaro village on Google Maps ↗ — this is the village location, not the festival entrance.
Arriving at Thessaloniki Airport
Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” (SKG) is our main international arrival gateway. For most overseas visitors, it is the practical starting point for continuing west towards Voio by hire car or onward transport.
When comparing flights, include the cost and timing of the onward journey. Leave time for passport control, baggage collection and any car-hire or coach connection. Airport pickup arrangements for festival transport will be announced separately.
At a glance: distances & travel times
These are broad planning estimates to the Dicheimaro area, not measured distances to the festival gate. The final venue pin and chosen route may change the total. Times are for driving in normal conditions; buses, stops and waiting for connections take longer.
| Journey | Approximate road distance | Allow by car |
|---|---|---|
| Kozani → Dicheimaro area | Roughly 60–80 km | Around 1–1¼ hours |
| Thessaloniki centre → Dicheimaro area | Roughly 185–200 km | Around 2–2½ hours |
| Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) → Dicheimaro area | Roughly 210–230 km | Around 2½–3 hours |
| Thessaloniki centre → Kozani | Roughly 120–140 km | Around 1½–2 hours |
| Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) → Kozani | Roughly 140–160 km | Around 1¾–2¼ hours |
Thessaloniki city centre and Thessaloniki Airport are different departure points. Allow extra time for airport access, city traffic, motorway stops and the final local roads. Recheck your live route once the festival entrance pin is published.
Getting here by car
From Thessaloniki or SKG: join the westbound A2 / E90 (Egnatia Odos) towards Kozani and Siatista, then follow your mapped route into Voio and towards Dicheimaro. From the airport, use the signed motorway connections rather than driving through the city centre unless you intend to stop there.
From Kozani: travel west towards Siatista and the Voio area, then continue on the mapped local route to Dicheimaro. Use the final festival entrance pin for the last part of the journey once it is released.
For the final approach: allow extra time for rural roads and arrive in daylight if possible. Follow festival signs and crew directions when you reach the site. Parking layout, vehicle access and campsite unloading details will be announced here.
If hiring a car, check collection and return hours and ask the rental company how motorway tolls are handled. Download your route before leaving the main roads.
Festival buses. There and back.
Daily return festival buses are planned between Kozani and the festival, and between Thessaloniki and the festival, across 10–12 September 2027. They will give visitors staying in the cities an alternative to driving each day.
The plan is for more frequent connections from Kozani, with fewer departures on the longer Thessaloniki route. Exact departure and return times, meeting points, fares and reservation instructions will be announced once the transport programme is finalised.
Coming next: the daily timetable, the final return after the music, luggage and camping-equipment arrangements, and any direct airport pickup options. Please wait for the confirmed schedule before relying on a particular bus to meet a flight.
Public intercity coaches and festival buses are separate services. A public coach ticket to Kozani does not include the onward festival transfer.
Arriving by public transport
From Thessaloniki Airport, the airport’s published public-bus connections include a service to KTEL Makedonia, the main intercity coach station. From there, KTEL services connect Thessaloniki with Kozani. Check the operators’ current routes and timetables before travelling; September 2027 schedules may differ.
Once in Kozani, continue using a confirmed festival bus, a prearranged taxi or your own vehicle. Do not assume that the intercity coach reaches the festival entrance. Plan the return journey as well as the outward connection.

Kozani: your city base
Kozani is a useful base for visitors who prefer a hotel or apartment to camping. It is a city in Western Macedonia, with cafés, places to eat, shops and accommodation options, while the festival sits further west in the countryside of Voio.
Allow about an hour or a little more each way for the journey to the Dicheimaro area. A stay in Kozani means a daily journey to and from the site, so compare your accommodation location with the confirmed festival-bus pickup point before booking.
Thessaloniki offers a larger city stay and the international airport, but the daily journey is considerably longer. If spending as much time as possible at the festival matters most, free camping is included with your festival ticket. Bring your own tent and camping equipment.
Before you set off
Pack for a forest weekend rather than a city venue: sturdy footwear, a warm layer for the evening, rain protection and a torch are useful. Keep the woodland and village clean, take your waste to the designated points and respect local residents.
